Frequently Asked Questions

What is a lash lift? [+]
A lash lift is a chemical process used to change the structure and texture of the natural lashes.  Three different levels of lift allow for the lashes to be lifted more or less dramatically.  The lift level will be chosen based on the length and condition of your natural lashes.  Your lash technician will help you choose which lift level is best for you.  This process uses cream based solutions for optimal safety and does not require lash adhesive or eyelash extensions (neither adhesive or extensions are used in this service).  Ask us about Eyelash Extensions if you desire added length and volume.
How long does a lash lift last? [+]
Traditionally, a lash lift lasts around 6-8 weeks. During a lash lift, natural eyelash are permanently curled and lifted upward. However, as mature eyelashes naturally shed and new lashes grow in, you’ll reach a point where you have enough new growth to need another lash lift. This usually happens after 6-8 weeks.  Often even at 8 weeks, there are usually still natural lashes mixed in that are still curled.  The lashes can be re-lifted along with the new growth that is straight.
Will it damage my natural lashes? [+]
No!  We use extensively tested formulations that are safer and more effective than traditional eyelash perms.  The solutions are designed to be nourishing to the lashes, and our technicians are professionally trained to properly perform the lash lift.
Who is a good candidate for a lash lift? [+]
Lash lifts are great for clients who:
- have become sensitive / allergic to eyelash extension adhesive.
- cannot commit to proper maintenance and/or hygiene of their eyelash extensions.
- are very happy with their natural lashes and only wish to add a curl.
- are after low maintenance procedures and prefer the natural look a lash lift gives.

The lash lift is not recommended for clients who are pregnant, nursing, have chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps, eye infections, trichotillomania, have recently undergone chemotherapy or have extremely short natural lashes.  Clients should to wait one year after having Lasik or blepharoplasty surgery.

Are Lash Lifts safe during pregnancy?
As with any beauty service, pregnant or breastfeeding women should speak with a physician before getting a lash lift. Lash lifting products do not touch the skin, however, if a reaction or sensitivity was to occur during or following the service, pregnant women may not be permitted to treat it with antihistamines or other medications. Pregnancy has also been known to affect the growth rate, and texture, of hair and eyelashes, so pregnant clients may experience less lift than usual.
What should I do to prepare for a lash lift? [+]
Arrive to your appointment with NO EYE MAKEUP on.  If you wear contact lenses, please be prepared to remove them before the service.
How do I care for my lashes after the lift? [+]
Lash lifts are actually pretty low maintenance!  Because the lash lift is a chemical process, we must make sure the lashes are being cared for afterwards with a product to maintain moisture and strength.  We love the jane iredale Lash Extender and Conditioner or the RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner – both products are always available at New Skinsations.  In general, there are 3 main things to remember after a lash lift:

1.  Do not get your lashes wet for 24 hours as this can weaken the curl.

2.  Do not sleep with the lashes pressed into the pillow as the shape can be affected (especially within the first 24 hours).

3.  Keep your lashes conditioned daily using an eyelash conditioner. (Ask us about our lash conditioners!)
Should I do eyelash extensions or the lash lift? [+]
If you already have long and thick lashes, then a lash lift can help you have fabulous curl and keep a naturally glam look.  The lash lift is great for anyone who is used to applying oil-based products around their eyes or who cannot lay still long enough during the eyelash extension process.  Alternatively, eyelash extensions are recommended for anyone who has shorter lashes or is really looking to add thickness or fullness. You are always welcome to do both!

Testimonials

"I LOVE my eyelashes! I hated how they always looked so straight and flat, even when I curled them. But now they have a beautiful curl and look so full!"
- Ashley N

"I've never had lash extensions before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I gave Presha a pretty vague description of the look I was going for, and she nailed it! She made sure I understood the care instructions, and two weeks after application my lash extensions still looked great! I definitely wouldn't go anywhere else!"
- Rachel R

"I cannot wear mascara. I was doomed with tired eyes. I am ecstatic with the results of my eyelash extensions! Not only am I photo-ready as soon as I wake up, but I also cannot believe how beautiful and natural they look AND feel. Thank you!!!"
- Laura H

"Perfect for my beach vacation! No need for mascara - they look so natural and beautiful. Held up very well! Still look great after returning home."

Frequently Asked Questions

What are eyelash extensions? [+]
Eyelash extensions lengthen and thicken your own natural lashes. They are single strands (or groups) of synthetic eyelashes that are curved to replicate a natural lash. They are applied to each individual eyelash with a specially designed bonding agent. Eyelash extensions are perfect for that special occasion or for day-to-day wear. They are virtually weightless and will not damage your natural lash so you can choose to wear them as long as you like!
Are eyelash extensions suitable for everyone? [+]
Just about anyone can do lash extensions! Eyelash extensions can be applied as long as there is a natural lash to glue the extension onto.  Individuals who have lashes growing back after undergoing chemotherapy are great candidates as well as people who wear contact lenses and glasses.

HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE AN EYE INFECTION OR HAVE RECENTLY UNDERGONE AN EYE OPERATION OR COSMETIC EYE SURGERY IT WOULD BE BEST TO WAIT UNTIL THE EYE AREA HAS COMPLETELY HEALED.

It is also important to note that an allergic reaction can happen at any time, with or without warning. We do also offer adhesive for sensitive skin. However, once a true allergic reaction occurs, it is not recommended to continue with individual eyelash extensions.
Will the application be harmful to my natural lashes? [+]
Not at all! Our eyelash extensions are applied on your own natural eyelashes one by one (without touching the skin) with a specially designed bonding agent developed exclusively for eyelash extensions.  This technique is not harmful to your natural eyelashes. The adhesive dries somewhat soft on lashes allowing flexibility and comfort.  Your lash artist will work with you and choose the appropriate extension length and weight to keep your natural eyelashes healthy and undamaged.
Will my eyelashes fall out? [+]
It’s normal for your natural lashes to shed and fall out.  Just like your hair, your lashes have a natural life cycle – every day you lose a few lashes (typically 2-5), and new ones grow in to replace them. When you come in for a fill session, your lash artist will attach extensions to your new eyelashes to keep your lashes looking full and beautiful.
How are the lashes applied? [+]
You will lie comfortably with your eyes closed. Your lash artist will then apply an under-eye gel pad or tape to cover your lower lashes. The extensions will then be applied to each individual eyelash using specialty tools and a safe bonding agent specifically designed for lash extensions.
Are lash extensions painful? [+]
Not at all! Our clients describe the application experience as very relaxing – some even fall asleep while their lashes are being applied. You shouldn't feel any discomfort after application either.
How long can I wear them for? [+]
With regular fills every 2 to 3 weeks, you can keep your gorgeous new look for as long as you like! In some cases, people choose to take a break and grow their lashes with a growth serum so longer lashes and more of them may be applied. We highly recommend RevitaLash Advanced!
How do I know which style to get? [+]
We can always start a service with a complimentary consultation to discuss and make sure you get exactly the look you want! Your lash artist will analyze your current lash length, curl and eye shape and make recommendations as well.

Don't worry, you’re never stuck with just one look. Want to try something different? We can change it up at your next fill session!
What if I don’t like having eyelash extensions? Can they be removed? [+]
Sometimes the initial results can take some getting used to, but it's easy for our clients to fall in love with their lash extensions. However, if for any reason you are unhappy with your lash extensions, you are welcome to come back for a lash adjustment or removal appointment. There is no refund for time and materials used at your initial full set application, and there is an additional charge for adjustment, fill, and removal appointments, as each involves both time and supplies.

If you have had an improper eyelash extension application somewhere else, or you simply wish to remove them, your eyelash extensions can be easily removed by our lash artist. Removal can be done at any time for any reason. It is a simple procedure that doesn't take long (about 30 minutes or less). We use a specially formulated removal solution that will break down the glue and safely remove your extensions without damaging your natural lashes.

Please DO NOT attempt to remove the eyelash extensions yourself! Improper removal will cause damage to your natural eyelashes and premature shedding of your natural lashes.
Classic extensions VS volume extensions?  [+]
Classic eyelash extensions which lengthen and enhance your lash line by applying 1 single extension per eyelash.

Volume eyelash extensions are the technique of applying multiple eyelash extensions to 1 eyelash resulting in a much thicker, fuller look.
How do I take care of my new eyelash extensions? [+]
• Do not get lashes wet for 24 hours after application
• Wash and rinse lashes daily using approved lash cleanser or SkinCeuticals Foaming Cleanser*
• Brush out eyelashes daily using a spoolie brush or clean mascara wand
• Do not use an eyelash curler (mechanical or heated) -- you won't need it!
• Do not use mascara -- you won't need it! (Many mascaras will break down lash extension adhesive and inhibit proper lash cleaning causing poor retention, etc.)
• Avoid eye makeup and creams with oils*
• When choosing an eyeliner, use powder eyeliner or water-based liquids*
• Do not perm or chemically curl your lashes
• Do not pick or pull on your lash extensions and avoid rubbing your eyes (this may cause your natural lashes to fall out prematurely)
• Try to sleep on your side or back to avoid damage to your lashes.
• Remember your lifestyle and activities such as exercise, hot yoga, swimming, hot steam or sauna, etc. will effect your lash retention.
• Remember to schedule out your fill sessions within 2 to 3 weeks!

*Ask us about our lash extension safe products!  We're here to help you find something you love that will work well with your extensions.
How often should I have a fill session? [+]
Every 2 to 3 weeks – depending on how quickly your lashes grow.

If you wait longer than 3 weeks for a fill session, a full set session will be required.
