Frequently Asked Questions

What is NeoClear? [+]
NeoClear is a unique laser treatment as there are no side effects and it is very comfortable! The unique technology of the 650-microsecond device allows energy to penetrate deeply into the skin within a highly safe and tolerable pulse to reduce sebum production, suppress inflammation, and destroy the p. acnes bacteria to help clear current acne breakouts and to stop them in the future. Also, the deep heating energy helps build collagen, which can reduce the appearance of acne scars and leave skin looking more even and radiant.
Who is a good candidate for NeoClear acne treatments? [+]
NeoClear is a solution for all ages and all skin types! While there is no one therapy that is guaranteed to cure every patient of acne, there is now an innovative new tool that can address your acne problems like no other technology currently available.

NeoClear is an excellent option for patients who do not want to take prescription medications or are unable to. Also, with so many products on the market that do not provide long-lasting results and increasing prescription and healthcare costs as well, NeoClear can also be a cost-effective solution for effectively and significantly reducing acne.

What can I expect with NeoClear treatments? Is it painful? [+]
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped, and your treatment provider will choose settings appropriate for you personally, with the consideration of skin type, severity, and other factors. Once the appropriate parameters are established, the NeoClear treatment is performed over the entire affected area. This step will destroy the P. acnes bacteria, reduce oil output and prevent future breakouts, and also improve your skin’s overall tone and texture by stimulating the growth of collagen and reducing redness. The second step addresses any active acne lesions. The laser energy will be concentrated directly on each lesion to reduce inflammation and redness, causing the breakout to clear rapidly, and reducing the risk of scarring.

NeoClear treatments are quick, typically taking between 15-30 minutes depending on the severity of acne and the size of the area affected (face, neck, chest, etc).  There is no downtime after the treatment is completed, and you may return to your normal daily activities immediately.  You will not have any prolonged redness post-treatment and if any redness does occur, it should resolve in just a few hours.

NeoClear is highly tolerable, safe, and effective for all skin types, all ages, and all types of acne. There is no need for skin cooling, anesthetics, and not even the need to touch the skin. NeoClear’s unique laser technology offers unmatched patient comfort—a new, gentler treatment—even for those especially sensitive to pain. This gentle approach is due to the Neo's unique 650 Microsecond Technology®. The phrase “650-microsecond” refers to how quickly the laser passes energy into the skin. The laser energy pulses so quickly that the energy cannot spread to the surrounding skin, which is what makes other lasers feel so uncomfortable on your skin.  The Neo's 650 Microsecond technology is what makes the NeoClear treatment uniquely pain-free; There is just a mild, very tolerable sensation of heat. This is one of the key technical breakthroughs of Aerolase technology!
How does NeoClear work to improve acne? [+]

Reduces inflammation

The laser energy helps to shut down blood vessels, blocking the inflammatory aspect of acne and reducing the pressure on the surrounding tissue. This alleviates pain and post-inflammatory redness.

Destroys P. Acnes Bacteria

The laser energy destroys acne-causing bacteria in and on the skin to both clear existing lesions and prevent future breakouts. It also helps to reduce excess oil and sebum output from the sebaceous glands.

Stimulates Collagen Growth

The deep-heating effect of the laser stimulates the growth of new collagen. This will not only help prevent acne scarring but will also help smooth acne scars that have formed from previous breakouts, leaving your skin clear and healthy.
What types of acne can be treated using acne laser therapy? [+]

All forms of acne can be treated using NeoClear.

   Papular or Pustular Acne

Papules are a form of acne vulgaris that appear as small bumps on the face. The bumps reveal no visible pores like blackheads and are not white like whiteheads. Instead, they are closed, red, and surrounded by skin inflammation.

   Comedonal Acne

Comedones are clogged hair follicles and pores in the skin and form when debris combines with oil to block the follicle. Comedones can be open (blackheads) or closed by the skin (whiteheads) and may occur with or without acne. Both may be treated with our lasers.

   Nodular or Cystic Acne

Cystic acne occurs when an infection goes deep into your skin, creating a red, tender bump that may be very painful. If a cyst bursts, the infection can spread, causing more breakouts. They are difficult to clear and, if left untreated, can result in severe scarring.
When will I see results? [+]
Results can often be seen quickly – in as little as a single treatment.  However, the majority of clients will notice a much more significant difference in their skin after completing at least 3 or 4 NeoClear treatments.  Improvement may be seen anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the severity of the acne condition and the client's reaction to the laser therapy. Some client’s acne condition may worsen before it gets better, but this will improve as treatments progress.

You may also notice that NeoClear does much more than just help clear your acne. While the treatment’s main purpose is to reduce current breakouts and prevent future breakouts, it also offers several other benefits: it stimulates the production of collagen and reduces both redness and brown pigmentation in the skin. You will likely see an improvement in your skin’s tone and texture and an overall improvement of the quality of your skin.

It is important to realize that there is no cure for acne, and occasional maintenance sessions are typically required following your initial series of treatments.
How many treatment sessions are required? [+]
The number of treatments can vary depending on skin type and severity of the condition, but generally, 4 to 6 sessions are required to see substantial improvement.  Acne treatments are done 1 to 2 weeks apart.

After your initial series of treatments, clients will typically need maintenance sessions every few months depending on their skin type. Some individuals will have longer periods of acne clearance than others. Since there is typically no cure for acne, occasional maintenance treatments help to keep acne reduced and controlled.
Can the treatment be used to improve acne scars? [+]
Yes, during the normal course of NeoClear acne treatment, the laser light will also help to lessen any cratering or pockmarks caused by acne as well as post-inflammatory acne pigmentation. This process is enabled by the laser light superheating the water within the skin’s dermis and helping rebuild and regrow both collagen and elastin, effectively helping to smooth out imperfections left behind from acne.  NeoClear can typically be combined with other resurfacing treatments or therapies to produce an even smoother result.  Your treatment provider can discuss all of your treatment options with you during a consultation!
Can NeoClear be performed on darker skin types? [+]
Actually, the Neo is the safest laser in the industry for darker skin types or tanned skin. This is because of MicroPulse-1064 technology, which essentially eliminates treatment pain while minimizing the chances of hyper and/or hypopigmentation.  Your treatment provider will choose the most effective, safe parameters for your skin type.
