What is NeoSkin? Am I a good candidate for this treatment? [+]
It used to take several different treatment methods that could not be done in the same session and multiple treatment sessions that had to be scheduled weeks apart in order to address a multitude of skin concerns. NeoSkin by Aerolase advances rejuvenation and tightening to new levels by enabling a comprehensive treatment to address tone and texture, redness, pigmentation, laxity, and other unwanted skin structures in a single treatment session with a single device. NeoSkin uses 650-microsecond laser energy, which is uniquely attracted to melanin, hemoglobin, and water within the skin to safely, effectively, and tolerably renew the skin’s natural, youthful glow. NeoSkin treatments are rarely if ever, a one-and-done treatment (a series of treatments is almost always required for best results), but finally, with NeoSkin, aging and many other skin concerns can all be addressed at the same time in the same treatment session.
This treatment is safe and effective for all ages and skin types, including those with tanned skin, and can be performed on any part of the body. NeoSkin is a quick, tailored treatment to address each patient’s specific needs.

What can I expect with NeoSkin? Are treatments painful? [+]
Focusing primarily on the face, neck, and/or chest (décolletage) areas, this treatment leads to skin tightening, pore reduction and tone & texture improvement. Additional benefits for improvement of skin tone occur simultaneously through the breakdown of pigmented and vascular lesions/dyschromia in the skin due to the 1064nm laser energy’s absorption in melanin and hemoglobin. This treatment also results in active acne improvement, less oily skin, and a reduction of unwanted hair.
After thoroughly cleansing the treatment area, your provider will choose the appropriate parameters for effective and safe treatment.
Step 1: The entire area (most commonly the face, neck, or chest) will be treated with laser light to globally stimulate collagen, which helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, lax skin, and pores and improve overall tone & texture.
Step 2: Individual concerns such as spider veins, broken blood vessels, acne, or pigmented spots will then be addressed with a more focused treatment. The laser energy will be applied directly to these concerns, which will disappear or improve over time.
NeoSkin treatments typically take 20-60 minutes depending on what conditions need to be addressed and how large the treatment area is (face, neck, and/or chest). Skin contact during treatment is not necessary with the Neo device and anesthetics/sprays/cooling gels are not needed with the Neo. The Neo's 650 Microsecond technology makes treatments uniquely pain-free. Some buildup of heat will be experienced and slight pinching may be felt while using the 2mm spot size. Most clients describe treatments as mild to moderate while experiencing a very tolerable heat sensation.
You may return to your normal daily activities immediately, without any downtime or prolonged redness. Some redness can occur post-treatment but, if any, will resolve within a few hours. As a result of melanin breakdown, some areas of the skin may have a slight graying or darkening effect and this will disappear within a few weeks. Pigmented lesions may darken upon being treated and will typically slough off naturally within a few weeks.
An at-home skincare regimen including sun protection will be recommended by your treatment provider. This regimen should be followed as directed on a daily basis for best results. Sun exposure must be limited, and the use of a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB minimum of SPF 30 is very important after receiving any laser treatment. Remember to reapply throughout the day when sun exposure cannot be avoided.
It is also important to remember that skin always continues to age. Once you achieve the results you are looking for from your first round of treatments, future maintenance should be scheduled with your provider. The frequency of maintenance treatments will vary from person to person and lasting effects will vary depending on factors that are specific to genetics and lifestyle.
How do NeoSkin treatments work? [+]
As skin ages there can be many changes that occur. Skin quality can worsen with enlarged pores, texture, and lax skin. Unwanted conditions such as redness, veins, sun damage, and age spots may show up. Acne may follow through adulthood. Whether you are looking to restore your clear, youthful skin or prevent signs of aging, NeoSkin can help achieve your skin goals.
Skin aging is a complex process affected by a number of factors. It can be characterized by poor skin quality, sun damage, redness, wrinkles, age spots, and brown patches.
Laser light is pulsed across the skin to heat water in the dermis. This stimulates collagen to help improve the skin’s tone and texture and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and laxity.
A more focused laser energy is then applied to specific areas of concern. This will help to clear veins, redness, acne, and hyperpigmentation or dark spots.
Over time and through the entire treatment course, skin quality will continue to improve and specific areas of concern will clear or significantly improve. The final result will be more clear, healthier, and more youthful skin.
When will I see results? [+]
Improvement may be seen anywhere from immediately after the treatment to a few weeks after the first treatment. Typically a session every month for 4 to 6 months is required. The majority of clients notice considerable results during the entire course of treatments and for up to another 6 months after the treatment due to the constant growth of new collagen and elastin.
It is important to realize that there is no way to stop the skin’s aging process, and therefore additional treatments may be required in the future.
How many treatment sessions will I need? [+]
The number of treatments needed varies from person to person depending on wants, needs, and the degree to which skin aging has occurred. For most patients, best results are seen in a series of at least 4 NeoSkin treatments scheduled 3 to 4 weeks apart. It is not uncommon for up to 6 treatment sessions to be recommended for the initial series.
Subsequent sessions may be needed to maintain the results. Additional treatments (up to 6 in a course) or repeating the initial treatment course in 6 to 12 months will simply improve the results and further deter visible signs of skin aging.
After your initial series of NeoSkin treatments and once the results you want have been achieved, maintenance or touch-up sessions can always be done as needed. Occasional maintenance sessions are recommended to maintain results and continue to work against the ongoing aging process. Fortunately, NeoSkin treatments can be performed whenever your skin needs rejuvenation.
In some cases, spot treatments may be an option to target only small stubborn or specific pigmented or vascular lesions, however, many clients will still choose to do NeoSkin treatments for the entire face and notice overall improvements to their skin. This can always be discussed further with your treatment provider.
Is it permanent, or will my spots and skin laxity come back? [+]
NeoSkin results are long-lasting, and while your skin will appear firmer, more full, and both red and brown spots will diminish after your treatment series, your skin will continue to age, and maintenance treatments will be required to maintain your results and continue to offset the aging process. The length of time until you need more treatment sessions depends on many factors, including but not limited to your genetics, medical history, sun exposure, environmental factors, diet, home skin care, and other lifestyle factors.
It is important to understand that sun damage and other signs of aging happen over time, not overnight, and the same is true even after your initial series. Over time, you will likely continue to see sun damage that was layered deep within the skin finally surface, and/or you may notice new fine lines that are now visible simply due to the normal aging process. Depending on your goals, once you achieve the results you desire, maintenance treatments or another series of treatments can be done at about any time. If you are wanting to see more significant results, another series of 3 to 4 treatments may get you right back to where you want to be. (As long as a period of 6 months or more has elapsed since your initial series, you may begin another series of treatments).
To best maintain and prevent signs of aging and sun damage, and especially if you are prone to pigmentation, it is extremely important to wear sunscreen a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen daily, and reapply as needed when sun exposure cannot be avoided. This will help to slow any increase of wrinkles and new, visible sun damage.
